Ludlow May Fair
Ludlow May Fair. Rides, stalls and fun for all the family.
There has been a fair in Ludlow for hundreds of years and the poet A E Houseman mentioned it in his poem, A Shropshire Lad, written in 1896;
"The lads in their hundreds to Ludlow come in for the fair,
There's men from the barn and the forge and the mill and the field,
The lads for the girls and the lads for the liquor are there,
And there with the rest are the lads that will never be old."
The Wynn family has been organising the fair since 1974 and it is quite the sight watching the team manoeuvre the trucks around the Buttercross/Bodenhams corner.
This year the fair 'squeezes' in on the evening of Wednesday 30th March, and run Thursday 1st-Monday 5th May (inclusive) One of the most unique highlights of the weekend will be the traditional Sunday Service on the Dodgems, taking place on Sunday, May 4th at 11:30 AM. This special gathering offers a light-hearted yet meaningful way for the community to come together in a truly unforgettable setting.
If you are travelling into the town please note that road closures are in place, and some businesses close during the event so please do check/plan your route before travelling.
See you on the Waltzers!
